Maybe we need a Constitutional Amendment that requires basic knowledge of WTF is going on in the country in order to have your vote counted. Maybe if you haven't passed the test you get a half-vote for showing up at the poll.
I agree, and have been saying so for many years.
The Founders never imagined how uninvolved, apathetic and ignorant the citizenry would become. They urged vigilance, in order to maintain our freedoms, but we have reached the point where the average American knows little or nothing about this nation's heritage, how the government runs, and what those in power are actually attempting to do (as opposed to their rhetoric).
If the mainstream media were doing their job (as it was intended when the concept of freedom of the press was introduced), and if the electorate were taking seriously what is going on in D.C., Barack Obama's approval rating would be in the single digits.
I believe that, if a citizen is receiving any kind of federal money other than Social Security and Medicare (which were originally intended to be trust funds of sorts), he/she should be ineligible to vote during the time of those receipts. And a voter should have to pass some kind of minimal civics test. Such requirements once seemed un-American, but the American electorate has become so apathetic, lazy, uninformed, government-dependent, and politically illiterate that something has to be done to save our republic from the overwhelming power of the idiot contingent. |
