The courses here use to all be short, I guess a lot of them use to be. A 424 or 454 par 4 was very rare. 460 or 490 was a par 5. Playing for money, it would be one irons off the tee. Of course the greens were army helmets, with a premium on getting up and down a lot of the time.

One thing that ruined my game, playing everyday after work and for money, you get good. Once I quit playing everyday, the chipping and putting went first, then the money quickly followed...
:)

I hated sand wedges. A friend had a loft and lie machine, grabbed a couple of old pitching wedges and made 52 and 56 degrees wedges and ground the bounce off. Sand wedges were all tooo heavy to play shots with for me from the fairway.

Back in my day, I'd watch players talk about how much better their clubs were because his wedge would go farther than mine. Of course his wedge was a seven or eight iron with a P stamped on the bottom of it.
:)
