Z, How does that statement disagree with your beliefs? Because it's flat out BULLSHIT.
This is the height of left-wing arrogance, that they think anyone who doesn't agree with their wealth redistribution policies is pretty much "taking things away from the poor."
I believe in empowering people to take control of their own destinies, to go out and study hard if they want to succeed in certain careers. I don't believe in pie-in-the-sky stuff, and I don't believe in supporting or rewarding irresponsible behavior like doing drugs, having unprotected sex, or essentially being lazy.
There are ways to break the cycle of poverty, which I understand is incredibly tough, but it can be done. But you don't do it by telling everyone there's no hope, that capitalism is just designed to funnel wealth upstream. That's a self-fulfilling prophesy, one that ensures you'll develop a permanent, dependent underclass.
No, my solution is to foster the American spirit that makes this nation great and that millions of Americans, especially immigrants, have relied upon in order to make for themselves and their children a better future.
There will always be those richer than you, and there will always be those poorer than you, but they have NO control over your destiny unless you let them. Too many people, however, do choose to let them, and it's because it's the easy choice to make. Easy but wrong.
