Gee, they don't have NT 4.0 working properly yet. Does anyone dare make a prediction about when NT 5.0 might work properly?
MS probably wishes they were able to produce the kinds of network services that Moab includes. For example, Remote Services. I'm not aware of any major ISP that would think about using NT's RAS to handle tens or hundreds of thousands of dial-in users, including connectivity, security, roaming from POP to POP, etc. Yet AT&T Worldnet and others use NetWare Remote Services (NetWare Connect) and NDS exactly for this.
The integrated DNS/DHCP services are a huge win. There are products on the market that "sort of" do what Moab can do in this area. For example, Bay's NetID (which costs $18,000 for 5,000 users, plus the cost of a separate Oracle or Sybase database, plus a couple NT or Unix servers). With this kind of product, you'd probably be looking at over $100,000 to get a functional system for 10,000 users. With Moab, it's basically just another NOS service, free with the base product.
Of course, NetID doesn't integrate DNS and DHCP with a funtcional directory service (yet: they say that's in the future) like Moab does.
