As I read the news article, the issue seems to be with the threshold used to pick up the putative interactions, and thus would have no basis. The proteins are similar to HDACs, called LDACs and their functions are not well understood but these proteins were discovered via their modification of histones and chromatin ultimately. This drama has piqued my interest so I downloaded the Nature paper below and am now reading it. I will report on it later, it is an involved paper. Here is the link and the paper is available via pdf.
