I've never know anyone who got a Costco membership to let it lapse. Everywhere in the US, they have the cheapest gasoline prices around. When people realize this, they don't leave, even if they buy nothing else there.

I thank heaven they aren't Walmart! At Costco, every employee has a smile, which is the opposite of Walmart. Everyone looking for a job hopes they can land one at Costco - they'll only take a Walmart job if they can't get one ANYWHERE else.
