I think country living helps.
Country people see similarities instead of differences. I was working in Mexico a few years ago and on election day I was told I was going to get a rancher's breakfast. Way up in the Sierra Madres a glass was produced with some mezcal and sugar and they milked a cow into it. I drank it and said mmmm that is really good can I have another? After 2 I said ok your turn and by about 10am we each had 3. I knew they thought a gringo would be repulsed by the realization milk comes out of a cow instead of a dispenser. By noon everybody but me was throwing up and had the runs which lasted for two days. I grew up drinking milk from a cow but mis dos idiotas were from the city or lactose intolerant.

They both managed to vote in Talpa de Allende before extended siesta.
