I've thought a lot about growth recently as well. Here's a thought experiment for you. What happens when you apply growth to a model ad infinitum? You get an asymptotic curve that borders on the vertical. Do you know of any system on Earth that can sustain that type of growth curve? Most curves that achieve asymptotic growth level off and come down dramatically afterwards. Right now we have a debt bubble that is out of control and is growing so fast that global GDP has zero chance of catching up to debt growth, simply because of the compounding of interest effect.

What worries me is that all the economies of the world are so focused on growth at any cost. To achieve that illusory growth, they have gone to extremes of debt loads that no one even believes will be paid back any more. That model has worked for decades, but it has extreme consequences, not the least of which is rampant pollution and environmental hazards.

More and more, I'm starting to believe that growth at any cost is not the solution, because it comes with more costs than benefits, when viewed at the macro level.

In the US, we're going vertical. No matter what I want to believe, all my logic dictates that this simply can't continue forever and maybe not even another 5 years before we get another crisis. The probability is extraordinarily high that this will blow up again, just like in 2008.
