The Republicans have sought out the most conservative elements and platforms. They are lost and are somewhere between the reactionary politics of the neocons and the growing minority population whom they think will will vote with the religious right. The problem is that the largest component of this perceived segment they hope to embrace - the Hispanics - are socially conservative but are not believers in the protestant "God favors those he loves" principle. Rich white, protestants will not like the social responsibility (almost a *noblesse* *oblige*) that is prominent in this culture. JMO.
