This shows 9:35am as the first call. Second link. Both indicate police on the scene by 9:36:38am. So a response time of 2 minutes or so. Now you made this statement. He could have been using a 1800s lever action rifle, or even a break open shotgun, and easily got off more shots then the number of shots he actually took. Do you still stand behind it? Remember he fired 100 or more rounds. The fact is that if he had to've used a bolt action rifle he wouldn't have been able to fire as many shots are he did in the time he took. Especially if the clip was limited in size. Working the bolt, having to retarget after that and changing clips every few rounds would have made a huge difference. Large clips on semi-automatic rifles with low recoil and high velocity low mass bullets that tumble on impact is the perfect recipe for wholesale killing. Which is why AR-15s are the weapon of choice for these killing sprees. It is what they are designed to do. Period. End of story. Now the same is true of some other weapons. The FN-57(remember Ft. Hood?) and FN PS90 comes to mind. There are, of course, others. Assault weapon is not a meaningless category under these circumstances. Weapons designed for mass killings would properly fall under this category and I really don't see why they should be allowed in civilian hands. Point of full disclosure, I am a huge fan of the above FN weapons. Great combination of lethality combined with high accuracy and low recoil so you can stay on target. You can blather all you want about stopping power, but the ability to accurately put a large number of rounds in the air in a short period of time is pretty much unbeatable unless you are big game hunting. They just aren't very good at that particular task. Not very good at stopping tanks, either....
