FYI... Some links further down in the post pertaining to Quotetracker discussions. The info is from this post over on TradingChief... tradingchief.com!!!!-I-need-quote/charting-trading-platform-info&pid=84296

I use Stockcharts with real-time um, cause ... I forget why exactly other than I've used them for about 7 years.

I am guessing that TD is the most popular trading account here. Is it great? No, it just sucks less than some others do. Active Trader is their best option if you trade above the minimum required.

A lot of people here used QuoteTracker some time ago, me included. I liked their charts and I found it best to use their paid version (cheap at $60 a year back then). I used Stockwatch for data ... not cheap but better data than some others. Interactive Brokers have some of the best deals for trading costs and it may be that they would be a cheaper option for data.

With TD, I still have an account there although I have lost my Active Trader status, which gives the best deal. If I remember correctly, I also used them for a free data feed with QT. Can't recall how that worked but probably wasn't as good as Stockwatch, which has many other features such as company information, trading history, short positions, and so forth.

If you are located in the US, it used to be that you could have a TD Ameritrade account (not available in Canada). TD Ameritrade is slick with QT and can be set-up to trade right off the chart. The Thinkorswim platform is also supposed to be slick and again, grrr, is only for US accounts using TD Ameritrade. I assume that there are regulatory problems for this in Canada so we can all continue to have screwed-up TD trading accounts. You can also trade forex and options through Thinkorswim.

If you have an existing TD account in Canada, I'd suggest trying the QT paid version and see if your free TD datafeed works to run QT. Perhaps someone here already knows about that?

Also, the Medved brothers who developed Quotetracker, seem to be doing a complete redesign due this summer. Good guys who made a great product and let people use it for nothing. How often do you see that? They have previously under-promised and over-delivered in their developments so perhaps they will come up with some special once again. It would be awesome if Canadians could get the best features also, instead of Americans using TD Ameritrade getting the best features.
