Microsoft: Windows Phone Is Now No. 2 Mobile OS In India

At Teched conference going on in Pune India, Microsoft revealed that Windows Phone has become No.2 smartphone OS in India. India is one of the fastest growing smartphone market right now. As per the IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker data for 2012 Q4, the India smartphone shipments reached a record high and reached a total of 5.4 mn unit shipments in 2012 Q4 smartphones shipped to India grew 38% Q-o-Q, contrary to the 5% decline that was seen in the feature phone segment during the same period.

Even though Android is dominating the market right now, release of Nokia Lumia devices with Windows Phone OS has made Windows Phone the N0.2 smartphone OS in India. Microsoft is investing in showing the Windows Phone experience via demos at consumer points like Cafes, Malls & Retail Stores while its OEM partners like Nokia, HTC are investing in TV, Retail, Print, etc,.
