Laiki Bank administrator appointed

NICOSIA -- The Cyprus Central Bank said on Monday that in its capacity as the Resolution Authority, it has, as of today, appointed Ms Andri Antoniades as the Special Administrator to implement the restructuring of the Cyprus Popular Bank also known as Laiki Bank.
Antoniades is a member of the Institute of Certified Chartered Accountants with 28 years of banking experience; 25 years with HSBC acting as CEO for the last five years and three years as General Manager with NBG Cyprus Ltd.
The appointment follows the approval of legislation by the House of Representatives on Friday giving the Central Bank authoritiy to undertake the restructuring of the banking sector. The Central Bank's announcement came only hours after eurogroup sealed a deal for a bailout agreement with Cyprus that includes the resolution of Laiki which will be split into a good and bad bank. Deposits under 100,000 euros and performing loans will go the good bank, which will merge with th Bank of Cyprus. The bad bank will take chanrge of all deposits over 100,000 as well as non performing loans and other assets which will be shared out among depositors once it has been wound down.l
