Very well said Bob. I bet you get a new record for recommendations!

If you wish to polish it, I'd be happy to publish it on a blog or my own web site with full attribution.

I would only add that you left out how low unemployment rate was in large part due to the housing bubble.... there were all sorts of jobs processing mortgages, giving easy appraisals, taking deposits at banks and, the biggest money makers, building the over valued homes on overly inflated land.

Also, the big banks have significantly cut the costs of their tellers by finding reasons to fire most of them who were making 12 to $18 per hr and were often older... to replace them with $8 to $14 per hr tellers that are much younger so very cheap for health insurance.

What I might add to your dissertation is ANYTIME there is a large pot of federal money TAKEN BY FORCE from the population for he betterment of someone else, usually who finances the politician's election, there is a bubble as the money flow is not market related. Examples:

#1 Wars are never ending since politicians on both sides find it easy to accept donations to keep us at war to make the warmongers rich. I love to watch the Blue Angels fly over me when windsurfing but it pisses me off they and much of this is all show to keep the money flowing. Would I actually pay what it costs if given a bill directly for all the military might we have? Nobody would.

#2 Education. Corrupt and not providing good value from every level K through masters degrees. I know of schools in the that take money and award degrees from Asians with poor English skills who can't use their "paid for, not earned" degrees yet the schools continue. I hear others getting worthless degrees with $100K in student debt.... this should ALL be private... that is let the schools make the loans and then they have incentive to give degrees in things that matter and to make sure they educate rather than deposit checks from suckers.

#3 War on Drugs and Prisons... Absurd... If the gangs could not fight over turf to sell illegal drugs, what would they fight over, sports teams? Yet the cost to society is huge and the percentage in jail is embarassing.

#4 Welfare to those who can't take care of their own kids. Change the laws to declare anyone who can't support their kids without government help as "unfit parents" and take the kids away for adoption and you will see a huge decline in the numbers... Bloomberg is too "nanny state" for me, but I have to admit I like his ads in subways showing the costs to having kids as a teenager.

again, good stuff!

rant off...
