Z,
That's playing politics.
And yet you're quoting Jay Carney, the mouthpiece of the White House political corps, who was told to specifically mention starving citizens and unemployed people in response to the closing of the White House tours.

Both sides are playing politics here, Z. The difference is who is fooling whom. I know that the Republicans are making a big deal over the closing of the White House tours, but Obama was going all across the nation making an even bigger deal over a 4-5% cut in federal spending (which doesn't even include Social Security and Medicare, the two sacred cows of the Democrats).

And I know just as well as anyone else that Donald Trump isn't being genuine when he offered to fund the White House tours himself. That's why I think if Obama were clever and wanted to "rise above the politics," he could have accepted Trump's offer and turned the tables on him.

Then it would have been Obama calling Trump on the bluff, rather than the other way around.
