It is an apt quote! I know someone that was tracing the trails of diamond explorers in Siberia using the below book where that quote came from. I think his name was Humboldt. bbfilm-adventure.de Siberians were the first to use grease to catch diamond and would drag a sheep carcass across the river bed knowing that grease on the underside would sometime pick up stones. Russian diamond placers must have been rich as hell for that trick to work. About a century after this the S. Africans re-invented grease tables for their diamond processing facilities. amazon.com
