There is going to be push back from people that actually like to drive. I think if/when this technology takes hold, it will generally be required in more congested areas of the country.

Additionally, what do you do with all the vehicles that don't have the technology, will you now no be allowed to drive them?

Although I agree you will be able to isolate the controlling software. But when required to tune or adjust the controls that drive the system I am guessing there will be ways for a virus to find it's way in the back door.

The other instance will be that you will have cars that are purposelessly hacked that will cause havoc on the vehicles, especially if they are made to communicate with each other.
