@Home , Microsoft unveil alliance

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 4 (Reuters) - @Home Network and Microsoft Corp on Thursday unveiled an alliance to develop Microsoft-based software specifically for @Home's high-speed Internet delivery service.

In a joint statement, the companies said they plan an @Home version of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 browser to be distributed and supported by @Home, giving @Home subscribers a choice of browsers.

Home and Microsoft also will work to Windows NT networking software as part of @Home's network infrastructure.

Finally, @Home's business division, called Work, and Microsoft will jointly support Windows NT in @Home's suite of small business solutions. Microsoft will provide support and resources to assist with these efforts.

''This technology initiative will provide users with a broad set of solutions for delivering broadband content,'' said Tom Jermoluk, chairman and CEO of Home Network. ''In addition, Windows NT will be a notable addition to specific Work commercial services that deliver reliable, fully-managed solutions for small to medium sized businesses.''

Financial details were undisclosed.
