I think his concept of HSAs from birth is a great starting point -- where people are actually responsible for what they spend.

The point you guys miss is that money spent by government is inherently wasteful, whereas money spent by the individual is not. That's why Part D was so radically successful until Obamacare destroyed it. Because people were responsible for paying a small portion of the cost out of pocket.

The evidence is overwhelming (in addition the intuitive truth) that if people have an interest in keeping health care costs down, they'll do it. My personal goal every year is to NOT meet my insurance deductible, because I don't want to pay that money (and only once in the last ten years have I paid the deductible in full). I don't want to spend that money because it comes out of MY pocket.
