It is impossible to know for sure the exact effect these farmers had, but their activities profoundly altered the ecosystem.

I have read about slash and burn activities by aboriginals many times in the past, but I haven't ready any realistic estimates of the actual deforestation. I can accept that the Australian Aborigines created widespread open grasslands over tens of thousands of years.
