Apple just lost a huge bit of negotiating power regarding a deal with China Mobile or Telecom or whatever......which is what the attack was about imo.

I think it was a big mistake.

This is all just a show trial that has its roots in the Cultural Revolution. AAPL has been forced into "self-criticism." The goal of self-criticism in front of the party or the masses during the cultural revolution was to develop internal solidarity which would IMPROVE work conditions and OVERCOME DEFECTS in the party in question. Further, the party that subjected itself to such public self-criticism generally experienced an INCREASE IN PRESTIGE within its work group and with the masses in general.

This "apology" allows AAPL to appear to be "chastened" and now everything that can happen will happen EVEN MORE ENTHUSIASTICALLY.

Clearly, the mechanism of socialist self-criticism lives on but cut off from its ideological roots, it is reduced to mere public pageantry.
