If I remember correctly, original MediaGX could not use SDRAM. Do you know if the GXm is capable of using SDRAM?

If so, I guess it would not be hard for Cyrix to use 100 MHz memory bus in MediaGXm based boxes. Cyrix would just have to make sure that the companion chip can handle it. The PCI divisor could be set to 3 to achieve 33 MHz.

With this setup, cacheless MediaGXm may come very close to performance of Pentium MMX with cache at the same clock speed. Just imagine the cost savings.

In my opinion, Compaq does not pay a lot more than $20 per MediaGX motherboard (since it has very low complexity). Add to that a $50 chip and the heart of your computer is $70.

If my assumptions are correct, Intel will have to reduce substancially the $300 price of 233Mhz Pentium MMX to be able to compete with 233MHz MediaGXm and 233 MHz K6.
