Hey Guys:

I have about a dozen csco 5500 catalysts with the Route Switch Module RSM, installed which is a layer 3 blade that for all intensive purposes is a layer three switch at wire speed with all of the traditional functions built in. It is a sweet product.

You have to be careful what you call a layer 3 switch a there are many competing vendorspeak definitions.

What CSCO has to now be very concerned about is the Corebuilder 5000 which I just installed 4 of and this is an excellent product with better redundancy and management than the catalyst.

This is 3coms first real attempt to create an Enterprise capable switch that is fully redundant. They do not have all the bugs worked out yet.

And on a final note coms is most certainly not the leading layer 3 switch vendor.
