Outlawing guns would be an excellent way of filling up empty jail cells. We would immediately have a new criminal class, that of "felony gun-owner". The best part is that most of these new criminals are essentially law-abiding, and so won't put up much of a ruckus when they get caught. A few will, and their dramatic resistance can be used as excellent material for demonstrating how dangerous gunowners are. We can use the resultant bad publicity to lobby for harsher penalties for these felons, say, capital punishment. Yes, that's the ticket! It would save us from having to feed and house these desperados. I'm sure you will agree with me that we will have entered Utopia.
