The problem, as I see it, is not with the pregnant woman. They're dealing the with the emotional difficulty of their personal situation. The problem here is that we have doctors who are willing to kill the baby and laws that allow them to do it.

But even a 13-year old can understand in the first trimester, "Look, this decision is for the rest of your life. If you want to abort the baby you have to do it now. IF you choose to have the baby, your life is going to change and you're going to be a mom in 6 months. You can't change your mind on this two months down the road."

I've known numerous women who had abortions at young ages, and none of them I've talked with about it recently are totally okay with what happened 30 years ago. That's anecdotal, but I doubt it is atypical.

There really needs to be a meeting of minds on this. The Right has to understand that abortions are going to occur, and about all that can be done is to keep them from happening late in the pregnancy. That is a bitter pill for those believe life begins at conception. But it is reality. OTOH, as technology improves, it becomes more and more difficult for rational people to justify abortions late in the term.
