when I was 7 years old, I had a coin collection of dimes and quarters....I did not collect the coins minted after 1965, only the pre-1965 coins. I used to go to the bank and get a roll of coins, and find one or two silver ones and keep them...at that age, I could tell the difference between a silver coin and a copper/zinc coin...I could buy a coke for a silver dime...today I can still buy a coke for a silver dime..

even a 7 year old can know this...:) what about ritholz?

maybe this decline in gold is similar to 2008, with gold preceding a significant stock market decline? balance is needed to hold a position thru the turmoil we see in the world today...I am wondering how to keep some balance while at the same time protecting my 401k from the extreme leverage in our financial system. at some point the cash I have in the form of short term treasuries may not be safe, and how to keep it safe? probably bullion.
