OT - Trading platform

Paul do you or anybody in your family own a Tablet and/or smartphone?

I upgraded my trading platform last year using a two screen set up. I have two duplicate PC systems for the two properties I frequent. The systems run on the Schwab (in the cloud) Citrix service that use the Street Smart Edge Platform. Their Cloud service is nice as each PC system uses the same watch lists. If I change, add or delete anything, all the systems are synced to the data that resides in the cloud on Schwab's secure servers.

I guess Schwab went this route so their Apple users could use the same Citrix based services. I am told that some type of Android set up is in the works for both tablets and smartphones too. For now, the web browsers and/or special Schwab's "Apps" make them work as good client machines.

I have my smartphone set up to receive SMS message alerts (some of the same ones that also send email alerts). These are mostly vol and/or greater than 2% price change notifications, 52wk high/low or other portfolio settings I have set. I only have a few of these alerts set, mainly to notify me of stocks I want to buy when certain price levels hit and/or other specific stock "events" occur.

I take an early walk w/ the dog every morning for an hour. This allows me to think, get exercise and on some occasions when I receive one or more alerts, to set up my buy/sell strategy for the day. That's where the smartphone plays it's role. I use the tablet mainly when I am traveling or on vacation to scan the stock news and/or enter GTC stock trades. Recently I have been using the tablet to monitor one or more of these IRC stock chat rooms. Dale over at the 50% gains thread has one set up. There are some good ideas floating there but mainly people who do swing trades.

The main activity is on my two monitor systems. These systems have special graphic cards, what used to be fast processors but most importantly lots of monitor space (two 32" LCD Panels). I can bring up several documents at one time when researching new ideas and/or companies. Information is key when evaluating fast market "events".

I am not a trader but find that to be a knowledgeable investor it takes all of these different devices working together to stay current w/ my investments. I suspect my next generation system will use a solid state drive and a quad-core low power Nvidia chip that will drive two or more LCD monitors. Maybe Apple is working on one of those in their labs.
