Mike and everyone- OK just seen the new NTT PHS phone. Saw a photo of it on the wrist of a Japanese lady. Not a very big wrist. Wrist still bigger than the phone which is due to be announced/released during the Winter Olympics. Looks a bit like those calculator watches and about the same size. Not much room for a meachanical disk drive there - even for current applications nver mind al those new applications that will soon be available thanks in the main to Qualcom. These new phones, an order of magnitude smaller than the Motorola Startak are going to need lots of quick, smart memory and SanDisk has got it today, is in the lead of the technology, is bringing on more advanced products regularly and is going to do very well. If competition arrives ...well even Intel has competition and both Intel and its competitors do well. The difference is that micro flash memory is at the begining of it's commercial existence and the others although possibly also releatively new are in an industry which is that much more mature. ie all other things being equal we ought to see this stock do similar things at the relative same stage of industry specific developmment. What these defvices are IMHO going to need next is some kind of screen which can be folded away or in some other way can be physically expanded. The sound can always be dealt with using an earpiece but the screen will have to be larger OR....no screens only voice recognition total control. All of this is going to require loads of very small very smart very fast memory....very soon...... Come on SanDisk/Elli get the publicity machine going. You've got a real winner.
