I can see why people would flee into physical gold, mainly because I cannot comprehend how constantly selling paper gold ever balances out on a ledger anywhere. Can they just short, say, 5000 tons of paper gold a year and keep adding to that pile forever? Same as naked shorts, right? Is that the same as printing dollars while shorting gold? And just cancel the contracts later under some national security or bailout ruse so that the dollars are here, and the gold short is not?
