I wouldn't bet on it ... but, at the same time, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

This administration, and their cohorts in the mainstream media, are also going to play to the hilt every single incident of violence or destruction (natural or otherwise) over the next few months. Americans are going to become overwhelmed with a sense of morbidity and helplessness -- at which time the president will tell us that much of what is happening (the accidents, the natural disasters) is out of our control. But we can control the issuance and ownership of guns.

And a good portion of the populace will swallow that swill, at which point the current Gallup Poll results showing that only 4% of Americans now find gun control to be an important issue, will then show that that 4% has risen well into double digits.

The 'never let a good crisis go to waste' credo can easily be morphed into 'create/magnify a crisis for the benefit of our agenda'.

This administration does nothing without fiendish choreography and scripting.
