>> You could not get up in the morning without government. It's what keeps your life orderly.

There are some functions that it is essential the federal government carry out, even if they do them poorly. I have no issue with those particular functions. But they should have no role, whatsoever, in the education of our children. Or telling plants where they can or cannot locate within a city or county. It is just none of their business.

>> Is there a distinction between fed gov and local government in your refined thinking process here? I mean, does Arne Duncan and his staff think to themselves, " i don't give a shit about these children" when they goes about making policy?

Yes, there is a distinction, but the point my post made was that government bureaucrats may well have good intentions. I just don't give a damn about what their intent was. They have to be evaluated by actual results. And the record is terrible.

I think that is the basic difference between people like myself and liberals. People like me don't care about good intentions. We're more interested in results. Liberals, generally, are either sucked in by the good intentions or simple don't comprehend what the correct metric is. In government there is no "A" for "effort".

This concept applies to Obamacare. As much as I disagree with everything about it, I don't believe the Democrats actually THOUGHT they were going to make things worse. Their INTENT was to improve things. But they didn't have the vision to understand what a disaster they were creating. Only now are the results becoming evident and "disaster" is about the worst understatement one could imagine.

They will BELIEVE they're going to fix it with whatever they do next. But they're not going to fix it; they're going to make it worse. Because that's what government does.
