I agree that German Hubris accompanied with an uncharacteristically cold winter hastened their defeat. You are correct that if they had concentrated on Britain and Western Europe rather than trying to outlast Russia they would have had a much easier path to victory in Europe.

They still needed more energy than they could produce, thus the Africa Corps. HItler would have ruled Europe for a while, but eventually America would have been drawn into the conflict and that would have been the beginning of the end for German dominance.
