>> If there's money to be made people will do it and fast.

I am not speculating. I know what I'm talking about. We're talking years. Which is the reason the original agreement of Republicans on the legislation (8 years ago) was conditioned on getting system set up and ready to roll. It is 8 years later, and NOTHING has been done toward that end.

(side note: Just like EMR systems were set up to do it "fast". A huge train wreck).

I wrote the first interface for physician claims for this MAC 33 years ago. And I've been dealing with the nitwits at Medicare Services ever since. And no, it isn't about HIPAA. It is about government. Easily 90% of medical claims in the country -- INCLUDING Medicare -- are transmitted via secure Internet through one clearinghouse after another, but ultimately, have to to travel the last mile via dialup modem. It is totally absurd, and absurdity is what the federal government does best. If you think Medicare is an outlier, look again.

IRS is practically the same nonsense -- unable to provide a simple online means of doing the most basic stuff. SSA, which processes every information return beginning with "W" in this country, same thing. Agency after agency, the same grossly incompetent nonsense.

I'm not jeering. I think it is pathetic that government cannot get its act together. But a large part of the problem is we have idiots like Barack Obama and Max Baucus making matters worse at every turn. Instead of GETTING RID of regulations, they add new ones. If you want a government that works, cut in half the quantity of regulatory nonsense. The economic surge alone would put us back on the path to greatness.
