Rod, Borland has no reason to get into the Javascript business. It's marginal, it's already well exploited by Netscape [ which has a huge technology jump on it, so if Borland were to develop their own Ecmascript-compliant language, it would be a big investment ], and it has nothing (zero, zip, nil, nada) to do with Java! Javascript is a cute scripting language, which gets more powerful all the time, but I don't think it's positioned to be a "shell script for Java".
No, this news is a complete non-issue for Borland. If this had resulted somehow in Oracle abandoning Borland's tools, then it would definately mean something.
I mean, why not complain because Borland doesn't have a Web browser, and that's a huge licensing opportunity they are missing out on? |
