We are the top, materially, anyway. We've got nowhere to go but down. I'd rather see us run in place than go down. China has a big middle class, but a much bigger have-not class, and most never will. There aren't enuf resources on the planet to get them there. "we better find some other race" The all-electric economy race, followed by the all green electric economy race. "every country that wants to be as prosperous as we are?" We use about 1/4 of the world's resources. If China and India become us, we'll be using 9/4 between the 3 countries... That leaves less than not very much for everybody else. Is that sustainable? I don't think so. Current Population is Three Times the Sustainable Level Current global population of over 7 billion is already two to three times higher than the sustainable level. Several recent studies show that Earth’s resources are enough to sustain only about 2 billion people at a European standard of living. worldpopulationbalance.org
