With the 5th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL draft, the Philadelphia Eagles have selected DT Bennie Logan out of LSU.
Logan is a big, strong guy at 6-2, 310 who did 30 reps on the bench at the combine. He's got long 34 inch arms and projects to fit well as a 3 tech DE in the Eagles new 3-4 look. Remember when Chip Kelly said "big people beat up little people?" Well here you go.
The general consensus on Logan is that he's a guy with first round talent, but has been inconsistent and has yet to put together a dominant season. Now, the bottom of NFL rosters are littered with guys like that so it's no guarantee he'll unlock that potential, but it is at least good to know the upside is there.
Logan wore the historic #18 jersey at LSU, which is given to the guy who best exemplifies what it means "to be a Tiger on and off the field." So it would seem he's a high character guy with a strong work ethic.
Interestingly enough, he's drawn comparisons to former Eagles DT Brodrick Bunkley.

Logan is a well-balanced tackle with enough strength to play the run and the quickness to push the pocket. Projects as a three-technique DT in a 4-3 scheme, though some have speculated that he could possibly play the nose in a one-gap scheme such as the Tampa-Two or Wade Phillips' style of 3-4. Logan is a hard worker that should be able to step into a rotation early, but not as a starter. Still, he has the ability to get to that point in time, and should be off the draft board in the first three rounds.
