"Are you against the gun violence that caused recent massacres?" If you reply yes to that, they can take it as if you are pro gun control.
This would be the logical conclusion of anyone who did not have their head so far up their ass they could see the tartar on the back of their teeth... I have gone into this before. Guns do not kill people. We can place a gun in the middle of the table and wait forever seeing who it would kill first. Only idiots really think guns kill. It takes a person to pick up the gun, point it at someone and pull the trigger.
Gun control does not prevent violent crime. Case in point...Switzerland requires people to keep guns in their homes...and not shotguns. Military weapons. And they have one of the lowest crime rates on earth. On the other hand, those countries which ban guns have some of the highest crime rates.
Gun control is not, and never has been an answer to violent crime. The only path that would take us down is towards total government control. The reason the 2nd Amendment was placed in our constitution was to allow the American public the means of preventing a dictatorship (or Monarchy at the time) from taking over here. Along with that comes the added benefit that no country in their right mind would dare to invade a country that has many millions of armed citizens.
It is a known fact that there is a strategy among the Left to remove the 2nd Amendment from the constitution. (There was even a step-by-step memo which was leaked describing it.) In order to make that happen, they would have to have a list of all gun owners to know which law abiding citizens (the criminals do not get their guns in any lawful way...mostly they are stolen, and as such not eligible for registration and would never be confiscated) have the guns to seize them from them.
So, the answer is not gun control, it is people and attitude control. Our society would need to be "retaught" some very basic ideals, morals and values. First, respect for others. You can see everywhere-in music, movies and video games-that this basic ideal is now somewhat missing from our western society. When we start glamorizing violence against others, disrespect against groups (women, gays, those of other races) and promiscuous behavior in movies rated for kids, then these become the accepted ideals, morals and values. Guns are not to blame...people are to blame.
I am getting up there in years, and while a kid we had many guns in our home...as did everyone else I knew at the time. We hunted (and ate what we shot), went to target ranges, etc. I even qualified as a marksman while in the Boy Scouts at camp. I never ever heard of any type of "gun violence" like we have these days. But then, our morals and values were very different than what is espoused today. I was not raised in some southern backwoods place-the area where I was raised in Indiana had the highest per capita wealth in the state. Even though the permanent year-round residents only number around 3000, a great number of millionaires have residences there. Growing up, we had 3 police officers...and one patrol car. There was no need for any more. People left their homes unlocked and their keys in the ignition, not worrying about theft. Now days, people have to lock up their homes as well as their cars, because the younger people just are not taught the same respect for others and their property as those of previous generations. |
