Of course evolution is a fact in the sense that living things have changed over enormous periods of time. It is also a fact that the major groups of animals burst onto the scene some 530 million years ago in the Cambrian explosion -- the subject of Stephen Meyer's book, Darwin's Doubt. But it is also a fact that science does not know what mechanism lies behind the evolutionary process

We there you go!

Off to a very good start with the finishing admission that there was a lot evolution going on 1/2 billion years ago! Great post, give yourself a rep for supporting the thread. Theres plenty of discussion on this rehash on many knowledgeable websites , nothing's changed Evolution remains still the best accepted interpretation of all data which few doubt, would you like a couple of links?

(And lets not stop there & forget to mention we have dated single cell oganisms back as far as 3bil years & there are plenty of theories now that do discuss the mechanisms of not just evolution & speciation but the earliest emergent chemical evolution , noted he forgets to mention the great oxygen cycle too )
