That's true, I saw it. And what you said was true and backed by fact, which is something the Far Left doesn't like. But, he DID have a point or two in there as well. For example, the Republicans and the Tea Party especially are seen as racist because of the way they talk about people of color, as well as the policies they are trying to push. Please understand that the term "people of color" does not always mean "black". It means people of color other than white. This fact comes to light in the immigration reform debate. To the Republicans and especially the Tea Party, this is their own agenda against Mexicans and those of Mexican descent-who are people of color (brown). It has nothing to do with anyone of any other nationality. It has nothing at all to do with securing the border (which they seem to think is only securing the southern border...the one where people of color other than white may get through.) They have been using 9/11 as an excuse to push this agenda, saying it is for the security of the country. However, facts show that not one single terrorist or terrorist suspect has ever come through the southern border. Nor have they ever come illegally. They ALL come over here legally with a visa...as a matter of fact, one of the hijackers who flew into the World Trade Center received his green card after the attack. And not one of the hijackers was from Latin America. Yet, even with all this evidence the security concerns in regards to terrorist attacks has been hijacked itself; away from people of Middle Eastern descent and focused on people of Mexican descent. Maybe because both are brown, but those south of our border are the closest, and therefor easier to hate? I can post examples of debate after debate on immigration issues and the related bills where the Republican and Tea Party members debating the issues continuously refer to "Mexicans" and not illegal aliens. This also is nothing new in American politics. During the great depression, thousands of "Mexicans" were deported with the thinking that it would allow more jobs to open up for "true Americans". The problem was...these people were really American citizens, born and raised here for generations! They were deported to Mexico and many could not even speak Spanish! Something that seems to escape the grasp of most Republicans and Tea Party members is the fact that about half of the United States once belonged to Mexico. That is why so many states have Spanish names...Colorado, Montana, Texas, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Arizona. These all were part of Mexico for far longer than they have been a part of the United States to date...and as such were populated with....you guessed it! Mexicans! There are many families of Mexican descent who have lived on their land for far longer than the United States has been a country, and who have retained their culture and language. And to deny them the right to retain own heritage and language would be the same as denying the right of Americans of English descent to speak English and retain their culture. As I said, the whole motivation behind the Right Wing rhetoric is based in pure and simple racism. As I said, even though you do have points from the past that I wholeheartedly agree with, in the present it is the Republican party that is pushing a racist agenda...which is part of what he was saying.
