TO ALL: John, your fine explanation here reminds me of a tract I once saw---it related to stewardship, but fits in an applicatory way-
Page one said:
God gave to man ten apples * * * * * * * * * *
Page two said:
Three apples man was to use for clothing * * *
Page three said:
Three apples man was to use for food * * *
Page four said:
Three apples man was to use for shelter * * *
Page five said:
One apple man was to give back to God for gratefulness *
Page six said;
But man looked at the 10th apple and it even looked better *
than the other 9, so he ate the apple and gave back to God the core

Application-
Instead of giving God our best in thinking, living, time, talents, etc. we give him the core.
