Contrast that with the kid I hired to help me load my truck with pine needles and pine cones. He's a high school freshman. I'd say he's operating at a maturity level at least ten years higher than his age. He's been on multiple EMT runs with his EMT/Fire Lieutenant father, including one just a week or so ago where a kid without a learner's permit caused a three car accident in which four people went to the hospital. He is well-versed in emergency procedures and at the Independence Day Celebration serves as safety officer for the fireworks display. This year he will be a launch officer.

When he works for me, I just have to tell him what I want done and he does it without close supervision. Sometimes I've hired friends of his to work along side of him and I give him supervisory responsibility, which he performs admirably.

My neighbor hired him too, and we loaded up my truck with their yard debris to take to the chipper day disposal site where both his mother and father are working. My neighbor paid him ten dollars for an hour's work the day before, and he put that in the donation can.

I paid him by check, which he said he's saving up for a rifle.
