Mexico City, in case you don't realize this, is a part of Mexico. It is also ridden with the exact same problems as everywhere else in the country. Columbia is worse. And Cuba? Seriously? Or Argentina? Would YOU immigrate there? That's not his problem. The country one immigrates TO gets to choose if it wants them or not. It doesn't work the other way around. Mexico's problems are self made. Mexicans have to fix their own problems, not depend on someone else to do it.
They chose to come here, thinking that the American freedoms that everyone speaks of are real, The freedom is for those already in our country legally, not for foreigners who want to come here. Freedom doesn't mean that foreigners have a right to demand entry into our country. That would be absurd, and no country in the world would allow it.
but according to the Right they are only pipe dreams that are for people who are not brown, right? This is the part that made me want to answer you. I'm on the right, and I resent the racist implication of your words.
I'd be willing to welcome every able bodied Mexican national that wanted to come here (as well as most countries that aren't out to do us harm) to work with these rules..
1. No public assistance of any kind for foreigners.
2. No criminals or gang members allowed, ever. Pass a strict background check.
3. Pass a health check for dangerous diseases.
4. Foreigners coming to work here must learn english in a certain period of time. 3 years sound acceptable? A common language is what binds a country together.
5. Stay as long as you wish while being able to support yourself, but you have no right to vote unless you become a US citizen.
Working legal immigrants add to the economy, and don't eat up jobs. That's why I'm all in favor of legal immigration for all types of workers. When they are working at ANY job, they are in the process of making more jobs possible. So I see workers coming into the country as a net gain, no matter how many there are. But the ones coming in to get free stuff are a DRAIN on the economy, and we shouldn't allow them to stay. No criminals, no freeloaders. All the rest who want to work, learn english and earn a better life, are welcome. |
