The number from Asia has actually doubled from 2007 to present. My original post actually has to do with the policy of always seeming to blame "Mexicans" as being the only group of illegal immigrants, and therefor placing the blame for all illegals on the shoulders of those from Mexico. IMO this is a remnant of the "Mexican Repatriation Act" from the 1930's, which is still within the American psyche. As I stated in an earlier post, due to the zeal of the Right behind officials in many areas, we are seeing a drastic increase of American citizens being wrongfully deported. I also pose the fact that a vast majority of those coming here in the last 10 years have done so for a combination of reasons. One being that they are in fact refugees fleeing a de facto civil war in Mexico. I mean, what else would you term a conflict which has already taken well over 60,000 lives of innocents where in you have two factions vying for control of a country? The second is they are fleeing an economic mess that was created by the policies of the United States, whom the government of Mexico has had in World Courts for decades over breach of the NAFTA treaties. The United States takes advantage of every aspect of NAFTA which is beneficial to it, while ignoring any obligations it has which are beneficial to Mexico. Along with that, companies like ConAgra, which are subsidized by the US and already paid once for produce it sells across the border, are able to sell in Mexico for less than Mexican companies can grow them for. This has forced tens of thousands of Mexican citizens out of work in the agricultural sector, as well as causing million of acres of fertile land in Mexico to lie unproductive, and is an unfair business practice that would not be tolerated here in the US. In addition, it has had the effect of devastating the economy of a country that in the past was one of the "breadbaskets of the world." This being true, the United States, IMO, has the moral obligation to render assistance to them as a country, and take care not to use that demographic as a scapegoat for all of our troubles. If their economy were allowed to grow and flourish without US intervention, none of them would ever leave home to come to the US...they would stay with their families, society and surroundings where they are comfortable.
