Two Unique Windows Phones show up in China

WPDang reports on two unique Windows Phones that are showing up for sale in China.
Above is the TCL S606 3G, the only Windows Phone without a shutter button. The device is being sold in Russia and elsewhere under the Alcatel OneTouch brand, and is being sold at the Jingdong Mall for 799 Yuan ($129), which is of course pretty cheap. That will buy you a 1 Ghz handset running Windows Phone 7.8, with a 4 inch WVGA screen, 5 megapixel camera and VGA front camera, 4 GB storage and 512 MB RAM.
Next up we have the Huawei Ascend W1, in a very unique CDMA version which, according to WPDang, was intended for the US market, until accusations of industrial espionage scuppered Huawei’s incursion into the American market.
That handset is selling for 998 Yuan ($162) which buyers you a Windows Phone 8 handset with a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor, 4 inch WVGA screen, 5 megapixel camera and 512 MB RAM.
With the Windows Phone ecosystem dominated by Nokia both OEMs will likely only ever have a tiny sliver of the small Windows Phone pie, but one cant help but feel that things would be a lot more interesting if more OEMs showed the level of support and commitment that Nokia does. |
