BoCan is intensely developing virtual currency, I guarantee it.

Could not find anything on their website about that. On the other hand, they are spending lots of money on "paper"-plastic currency:

bankofcanada.ca

So somebody in the bank is no doubt thinking hard about things like bitcoin.

Regarding the mintchip. The Canadian Mint is a crown corporation that makes metallic currency, not just for Canada, but other countries. I think what they have in mind is a sort of "electronic coin" that they can market but I think bitcoin is a better idea, cuz it's real money like cash - like having a pocket full of invisible US $20s or $100s, or Pounds or Yen, whatever you want.

I think the great days of bitcoin and bitcoin-like currencies are ahead of us because we're about to see really, really, really, cheap, smart phones. I can see bitcoins really taking off in S America, Asia and Africa.
