CVX vs COP (plus PSX) not quite an all time high that was reached Jan 2009 around $93.00/share.

Wow, when I put the pieces back together for COP + PSX

The split was 2 shares COP for each 1 share PSX. Based on 100 shares of COP the new value would be as follows:

Spinn-Off Date 4/12/2012 4/30/2013
100 shares COP $ 54.19 ($5,419.00) $60.02 ($6,002.00)
50 shares PSX $ 33.47 ($1,673.50) $60.38 ($3,019.00)
---------------------- -------------------
Old COP value/100 shares $ 69.92/share ($6,992.50) $90.21/share ($9,021.00)

CVX $ 97.48/share $121.00/share

Looks like a 29% gain for COP and 24% gain for CVX for the same time period.

With the higher dividend payout for COP + PSX and better capital gain, the edge goes to COP + PSX investment over CVX. Both would have been stellar adds even the 3rd place choice XOM.
