Most of the Doomists were right, but they are gone......they never imagined the willingness of the establishment to break the rules, subvert the rules, and do absolutely outrageous and dangerous economic acts. They were operating within the concept of a free enterprise economic system, one that was regarded as sacrosanct and in most cases justly predicted failure and bad times ahead. That we have destroyed our own systems in the mad dash to avoid collapse does not prove there thesises wrong, it just points to their naivete about the rule breaking and corrupt world in which we live.
Now? Well look around. Every week, it seems, we are discussing another 'market failure', another intervention of the 'machines', another free market idea destroyed. I understand that one must 'dance with the devil' if one is to participate in this market, and that it is 'unmanly' to always be bitching about change, but we either have a visit from the Doctor Doom we know, or we usher our children into the care of Lex Luther on the premise that they are safer with him than in the land of the occasional walking dead terrorist.
In this case, the trend, the underlying market perversion trend, is definitely not our friend. Your choice Doctor Doom or Lex Luther. (I hear Batman is in the Marquesas drinking beer and chasing young lasses around a village of grass shacks......)
