"Except that's just not true. You're confusing the growth of the military-industrial complex with a lot of other things government spends money on. "

The MIA is the worst waste of money we have. We are at the point where we are building weapons as if the old Soviet Union still existed and was competing with us. But they aren't! We build weapons better that our previous generation of weapons, which we then sell to other countries, so we need weapons superior to our LAST generation of weapons, and on and on to infinity. Except, we only sell weapons to our allies - so that kills that argument.

Some military boosters point to China - who recently BOUGHT their first aircraft carrier from a former Soviet state. So far, they don't have any planes than can land on the thing, but they're working on it. Anyone paying attention knows that China's focus isn't military. Other than troop numbers, their military is 1/7th of ours.

We should immediately divert most of the nearly trillion dollars a year we blow on the military and put it on projects like the TVA. Long-term investments that will benefit the US for the foreseeable future, but not one's that any private interest will take on.
