The great thing about having a limited federal government is that the states would then be free to being either statist of libertarian. The libertarian states would grow faster and become the centers of commerce.

With an overly powerful central government that cannot happen. Our Founding Fathers designed a weak central government because they knew what would happen if it was strong.
