Re : and proud to be Irish-American. Why the need to hyphenate ? Cant u say u are American ? As a 1st gen migrant, I have been chastised, when I say "I am an American of Asian Indian Origin". Do 2nd/3rd/4th gen migrants have some special license ? Edit : I have also been chastised when I post articles from the Indian News Media, that describe the Governor of Louisiana - Bobby Jindal - as an Indian-American.
